BABSCon 2023 has you covered with our final Guest of Honor. Back from a nearly 4-year absence from the con circuit, it’s writer, story editor, and show developer extraordinaire Gillian “GM” Berrow!

Gillian got her MLP start writing the vast majority of G4’s chapter books before writing episodes of Friendship is Magic and Equestria Girls, and story editing Pony Life. But now, she’s co-written the Generation 5 movie My Little Pony: A New Generation and developed the MLP Make Your Mark series for Netflix. She’s also been known to do a little voice and on-screen acting, including guest roles in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Law & Order: SVU. Follow her on Twitter.

How about we bring back an amazing writer from the first half of the series for you. To that end, BABSCon is thrilled to announce that we have the purveyor of Power Ponies herself, Charlotte Fullerton, joining us this year!

Charlotte wrote some truly beloved episodes of MLP:FiM, including “May the Best Pet Win!”, “Suited For Success”, and “Power Ponies”, among others. She also contributed heavily to the Ben 10 franchise, writing episodes across its several TV series, plus videogames, chapter books, and comics.

Additionally, Charlotte remains committed to continuing her late husband, Dwayne McDuffie’s legacy of artistic excellence and diversity through the The Dwayne McDuffie Fund. Follow her on Facebook and Twitter.

And to feel that nostalgia, we’re bringing back one of the very best of that stable: Tony Fleecs!

In addition to My Little Pony, though, Tony’s a prolific and critically-acclaimed writer whose work has sold hundreds of thousands of copies in the United States and has been translated and reprinted all over the world.

While we all know Thom for bringing back Flutterbat, turning the Mane Six evil, and chronicling the Pinkie & Cheese love story, he’s a prolific comic book creator and animation writer outside of MLP as well.

He created the Harvey and Ringo award-nominated Love and Capes (recently with new volumes “Home for the Holidays" and "In the Time of Covid"), Cupid's Arrows, Warning Label, Long Distance, and the time-traveling wine comic Time and Vine. This time, from The Boiling Isles, we’re bringing The Owl House’s own Luz Noceda, Sarah-Nicole Robles! She’s coming out to come play with the ponies because, as Luz would say, us weirdos have to stick together. (#LumityForever)

In addition to her breakout role as Luz in The Owl House, Sarah-Nicole’s vocal talents are on display playing characters such as Flytrap in Carmen Sandiego, Señora Ozma in Encanto, Zuma in Kung-Fu Panda: The Dragon Knight, and Scarlet on Star Darlings (written by MLP’s very own Amy Keating Rogers). She’s also made on-camera appearances on Grey’s Anatomy, NCIS: Los Angeles, and more. You can follow Sarah-Nicole on Twitter and Instagram.

We want to give you guys a reason to support us for this Capital Campaign Drive beyond just giving you a great convention with fantastic guests and events. We have been trying various methods, merchandise, and sponsorships to raise this money since August, with limited success.

We have devised perks for donating that are amazing. In order to make donation easier and see what perks we are offering we will be running an Indiegogo campaign that will be fulfilled through Backerkit.

Our goal for this Capital Campaign drive is $50,000.00. This is to cover our pressing need of $40,000.00 plus the fees necessary to run the Indiegogo campaign and fulfillment with Backerkit.

In the next few days we will be releasing another State of the Convention video as well as the Indiegogo campaign.

]]> BABSCon Really Needs Your Help for 2023! https://2023.babscon.com/news/post/capital-campaign-2023 https://2023.babscon.com/news/post/capital-campaign-2023 Tue, 06 Dec 2022 21:30:00 +0000 We won’t beat around the bush. We need your help to ensure we can last through 2023 and beyond.

In 2020, as many of you know, COVID-19 wreaked havoc on this planet. The timing of the global shutdowns were devastating for BABSCon. We were only a few weeks away from having our 2020 convention. Then, our 2021 event was also cancelled due to COVID. This meant we lost two years of revenue while our monthly bills kept coming.

Despite our best efforts with BABSCon 2022, we're still in a very bad place, financially. To that end, we've set up an Indiegogo campaign to raise the capital we need for 2023 and beyond. More details about our current situation can be found on that page.
